Microsoft extends Windows 7 system support to January 2020

US technology information website ZDNet reported on Monday that Microsoft revised the technical support policy for consumer Windows this month. Windows Vista and Windows 7 for regular consumers will receive full 10-year technical support.
According to Microsoft's revised technical support policy, the technical support deadlines for Windows Vista and Windows 7 will be April 11, 2017 and January 14, 2020, respectively.
Previously, the consumer version of Windows only provided 5 years of mainstream technical support, while the enterprise version of Windows received 5 years of additional technical support. Under the previous policy, Microsoft's mainstream technical support for the consumer version of Windows Vista will end in less than two months, April 10, 2012.
Microsoft revised the consumer Windows support policy this month to extend the time it takes to provide technical support. Through Microsoft's Technical Support Lifecycle homepage, you can see that the technical support time for the consumer versions of Windows Vista and Windows 7 has been extended.
Microsoft has announced relevant news on the Japanese website. Microsoft said that by modifying the lifecycle policy and providing extended technical support, Microsoft will make it easier for users to use Windows systems. This policy change applies to Windows 7 and Windows Vista. In addition, technical support for Windows XP will end on April 8, 2014.
A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed the news. The spokesperson also said that Microsoft requires users to install the latest SP service pack, so that they can continue to receive updates released by Microsoft.
It is expected that Microsoft will release Windows 8 later this year, so before April 2014, Microsoft will provide technical support for four versions of Windows at the same time.
