What is hyperthreading, what should the hyperthreaded CPU cause to crash?

What is Hyper-Threading?

The Hyper-Threading Technology uses special hardware instructions to emulate two logic cores into two physical chips, allowing a single processor to use thread-level parallel computing for compatibility. Multi-threaded operating system and software reduce CPU idle time and improve CPU operating efficiency. Hyper-threaded CPU causes computer crashes? If you use Hyper-Threading CPU, if you use WinXP integrated IE6 to browse the web, there will often be a crash. There are three solutions: 1. Turn off Hyper-Threading in the BIOS; 2. Use other browsing. Browse web pages, such as Netscape and Opera; 3. Upgrade and install WinXP SP2 package. The author configured a computer at the end of last year. The specific configuration is: CPU is P4 2.4C GHz supporting Hyper-Threading, the motherboard is Abit IS7-E with i865PE chipset, it has 10/100Mbps adaptive network card and 5.1 channel onboard. AC'97 sound card, memory is two 256MB Kingston DDR400 (composed of dual channel mode), the graphics card is ELSA radium 9800SE. I opened Hyper-Threading Technology in the BIOS and installed dual systems: WinXP and Win98SE.

When I use this machine, I found that it is normal to perform word processing, graphics processing, single game and online games, or watch movies online under WinXP. It is normal to use QQ chat. However, if you use WinXP integrated IE6 browser to browse the webpage, the system speed will be slower. In the task manager, you can find that the CPU usage is as high as 100%, which eventually leads to crash. After pressing the Reset button, the phenomenon remains the same.

I suspect that it is related to firewalls, 3721 Internet Assistant, Trojan or software incompatibility. Turn off the firewall and 3721 Internet Assistant, after processing and killing viruses, etc., did not solve the problem. Finally, the hard disk was formatted and the WinXP SP1 system was reinstalled. Without installing other application software, the author used WinXP SP1 IE6 to browse the webpage, and still crashed. Can't solve it, finally I entered Win98SE, dial-up Internet, browse the webpage with IE6, there is no crash phenomenon. Win98SE does not support Hyper-Threading (HT) CPU. Is Intel's Hyper-Threading CPU incompatible with WinXP-integrated IE6? So the author turned off the HT technology in the BIOS, and the above phenomenon did not occur anymore.
