Taming Windows Server 2003

Although there are some techniques that can make Windows Server 2003 more in line with our usage habits, but for me and other rookies, the operation is still quite difficult, is there a simpler and more troublesome way to tame it? Yes, that is to use the Windows Server 2003 Optimize Tool.

Windows Server 2003 Optimize Tool interface shown in Figure 1, it will automatically detect the Windows Server 2003 version number, internal development code, system type and other information, of course, the most practical is the following row of options page What kind of work can it help us do? Let us take a look.
Figure 1

1. Clear the prompt information

There are 10 options in the "General" tab, such as "Disable Shutdown Event Tracker" can shield the shutdown event tracking program, so When you shut down, you no longer need to choose a nasty reason to shut down; "Don't need CTRL+ALT+DEL on Logon" allows you to no longer need to press the "Ctrl+Alt+Del" key combination when logging in; "Disble" Low Disk Space Warning will not pop up the warning message that the disk space is seriously insufficient. "Remove Testing Notice from desktop" can remove the test words after installing SP1. If you are using the test version of Windows Server 2003, on the desktop. The test words will also disappear.

2. Display Settings

The contents of the "Display" tab are used to adjust the display properties. "Acceleration", in the "Display Properties" window, you can adjust it by pressing the "ALT+V" key combination; "Directx" will be DirectDraw acceleration, Direct3D acceleration, AGP texture of the "DireceX Diagnostic Tool" window. Accelerate automatic setup and adjust the hardware's sound acceleration level to full acceleration; "Enable Themes" is the desktop theme, and "Select Skin" is the different desktop theme.

3. Audio Settings

In the “Sound” tab, you can install the driver for the audio device, enable the Windows Audio service, and “Maximize Quality” to open the “Sound and Audio Device Properties”. In the window, select the “Put the volume device icon into the taskbar” option, and you will see the volume icon in the system tray later; “Volume Control” will open the volume control window for volume, waveform, software synthesizer, line Input, CD player, etc. are adjusted, not much to say here.

4. Enhance system functions

I think some of the tools provided in the "Other" tab are very useful. As shown in Figure 2, "System Restore" can be added to add system restore function to Widnows Server 2003. Of course, you must prepare a Windows XP installation CD in advance, because this function is ported from Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 itself. System restore is not available.

"Enable PTP" can enable Windows Image Acquistition service, so you can use digital cameras, scanners, cameras and other imaging equipment; "Enable CD-REC" can enable IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service service, which activates the built-in CD burning function of Windows Server 2003; "Memory/CPU" is actually open the "System Properties → Advanced" tab to configure the virtual memory and processor plan, not to mention here.

5. Adding Games

Since Windows Server 2003 was developed for the server, it does not provide the game components in Windows XP, although they are just some small games. But always feel that something is missing. Now, just select the favorite game in the "Games" tab, then click on the "Apply" button below, then you will be asked to insert the windows xp installation CD, follow the prompts (Figure 3).

6. Service Settings

The "Web Edition" tab is only for Windows Server 2003 Web Edition version, and can be used for HTTPFliter, IISADMIN, srvcsurg, appmgr, SMTPSVC, elementmgr, The W3SVC service is configured, or it can block all services used by the server.

7. Adding components and drivers

In the "APPS" tab, you can install some system components or drivers, such as Java VM, directx 9.0b, Messenger, VIA 4in1, Intel Drivers Wait, friends can choose as needed.

In addition to the above important options pages, some very good tools are also available in the "Tools" menu. For example, "Automatic Logon" allows users to automatically log in to the system, eliminating the need to enter usernames and passwords. Trouble; "Windows Update" can be configured for automatic updates; "Enable Hibernate" can enable hibernation; "IExpress" can open the IExpress wizard window, which is actually a very good self-extracting file creation tool that you can use to create CAB compression package or self-extracting file. As for other tools, friends can study slowly, and there is not much to say here.

After a "tune-up" of Windows Server 2003 Optimize Tool, Windows Server 2003 will become obedient and easy to use.
