Easily build a mail server for Windows 2000

  

MDaemon is a very powerful mail server software that runs on Windows 9x/Me and Windows NT/XP/2000/2003 operating systems, especially for those that need to be in the LAN. Users who send emails to each other and need to send emails to and from the Internet. In addition to SMTP/POP3, MDaemon server also includes mailing list, support alias, automatic reply, automatic forwarding, multiple domain name, remote management and other services. The unlimited user version of MDaemon can support thousands of users, so MDaemon can be applied to any organization's mail service. Below we will explain the installation, configuration and management of MDaemon in Windows 2003 environment.

I. Installation of Win 2003 Server MDaemon
<1> (1) At the beginning of MDaemon installation, the system will ask the user to select the language used by the MDaemon control interface. MDaemon's management interface can support multiple languages ​​- English, German and French. If you are familiar with English, it is recommended to choose U.S.English language for installation.

(2) Click the OK button in the dialog box to display the software license agreement. If you want to continue MDaemon installation, you must accept the agreement.

(3) Click the “Agree” button to display the installation wizard for selecting the MDaemon installation path.

Under this installation path, all users' mail will be stored. It is therefore recommended to install MDaemon into a partition with a large remaining disk space. Click the Browse button to select a new installation path.

(4) Click the Next button, the installation wizard dialog box for filling in the authorization information will be displayed, where you can type the user and unit name respectively.

(5) Click the Next button to enter the interface for selecting the components to be installed.

MDaemon has the following three installation options.

MDaemon server for SMTP, POP and IMAP service is the most basic mail server content, so you must choose to install. It can provide SMTP mail delivery service, POP3 way to receive mail service and IMAP service.

MDaemon client for remote configuration services is a tool for remotely managing mail servers.

This tool is the best choice if the mail server is hosted on the ISP but cannot be controlled to the server.

WorldClient server for web based email and groupware services is used to choose whether to install the web mode to send and receive email client services. Within the MDaemon mail service, WebMail is WorldClient. It is intended that everyone knows that users can access this mail server from anywhere in the world. MDaemon relies on B/S (browser/server) for mail access without the need to install any client software. All the user needs is a browser.

(6) Click the Next button, the Ready to Install dialog box will appear, prompting the user to officially install MDaemon.

(7) Click the Next button, the installation process begins to copy files for the official installation of MDaemon. After the installation is complete, the Configure DNS dialog box will appear, where you will be asked to type the primary DNS server and the IP address of the backup DNS. It should be noted that for dial-up users, the IP address is not fixed, so there is no need to fill it out. Check the Use Windows DNS settings checkbox to use the network settings in Windows.

(8) Click the Next button, the dialog box for creating the first user registration information will be displayed, and the full name of the user name (acceptable Chinese) and the name of the email account (excluding the host) will be entered in each text box. Domain name) and account password. This account is the Postmaster (this account is the administrator account) and This accounth as Administrator level web access (this account is the Web mode administrator rights) option. If you want to use this user as the administrator of the server and the administrator of the web access, you can choose these two separately.

(9) Click the Next button to ask if you want to add the mail service to the server's system service. It is necessary to select the check box so that the established server can start running the mail system normally without logging in after booting.

(10) Click the Next button, the system will prompt whether to install the advanced options. Check the I want to go through the setup process now checkbox and the installer will configure the MDaemon mail server in a wizard.

(11) Click the Next button and the Advanced Setup Setup Wizard will first display a documentation. Continue to click the Next button and the dialog box for setting the domain name used by the mail server will be displayed. Type a domain name in the blank field. For example, if the official domain name of the application is ghq.org, then ghq.org should be typed there.

(12) Click the Next button and the dialog box for setting the E-mail proxy will be displayed. When MDaemon receives the mail, MDaemon will connect to the mailbox and receive the mail to the local server by means of the POP Host address (POP Host) and the username and password typed here, and then the user will receive it from the local mail server. Mail, that is, this is a mail proxy feature. Since we are providing mail services for ourselves, not for implementing any mail agent, leave blanks without filling in anything.

(13) Click the Next button to display the setup wizard for setting up MDaemon and ISP connection methods. If a mail agent is set up, you need to establish a connection with your ISP. If you do not set up a mail agent, there is no need to make any settings here. Uncheck the Yes, I want MDaemon to connect me to my ISP checkbox.

(14) Click the Next button, the system prompts the MDaemon server to be successfully installed, and displays the installation success dialog box. The four options mean starting MDaemon, viewing the documentation, upgrading immediately, and automatically monitoring the upgrade later. Check the Start MDaemon and Check for future updates automatically checkboxes, the system will immediately start MDaemon, and automatically download the upgrade package online to achieve MDaemon upgrade.

(15) Click the Finish button to complete the installation process and open the main interface of the management window.
