WinXP system broadband application skills

Nowadays, there are more and more friends using high-speed Internet access such as ADSL and LAN. For example, the broadband broadband Internet access provided by the city where the author is located is not limited (but the traffic is limited to 512KB). It’s really a pleasure. If you have upgraded to the Windows XP operating environment, then these broadband usage tips can not be seen:
1. View broadband connection status

just start from “Start/Control Panel” Open the “Dial-up Network” window, as shown in Figure 1, you can see that an available connection has been established under “LAN or High-speed Internet Connection”. The default name of this available connection is “local”. Connection & rdquo;, for ease of use, I have renamed it to "Broadband Connection". Double-click the icon or execute the “Status” command from the shortcut menu to see a window like the one shown in Figure 2. From here you can see the status of this connection (whether it is connected), duration (connected Many useful parameters such as time) and speed.

2. Disconnect the broadband connection

I use the LAN LAN mode to access the Internet, I don't need a dial-up connection every time, I can access the Internet when I turn it on. It is very convenient. Some friends who want to temporarily disconnect the broadband connection, but can't find the "Disconnect" command from the shortcut menu, do you want to unplug the network cable?
Of course not, we can right click on “local connection", execute the “deactivate” command in the shortcut menu so that you can disconnect. When you want to connect again later, just execute the "Enable" command. However, after testing, I found that when the broadband connection is disabled, the connection is easy to fail when it is enabled again. At this time, the “fix” command can be executed.

3. Using the built-in firewall

In the "Properties" window, click on the “Advanced” tab, as shown in Figure 3, check “ Or block access to this computer from the Internet to protect my computer and network > checkbox, you can get a free firewall protection, why not?

4. Realizing Broadband ICS
Since broadband has been used, why not let other computers in your home enjoy it? Below, the author introduces to friends a few tips for implementing broadband ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) in Windows XP through an example:
(1) Guarantee ICS from hardware

First, we must Physically connect the computer (I use the desktop and laptop in my home for example). For the average home user, it is relatively simple to set up a peer-to-peer network, which means that each computer can communicate directly with each other. So that you can achieve resource sharing without the need for a dedicated server, one of the services that ICS can achieve.
Simply, you need to prepare the network card, five twisted pair, crystal head and other things. Please pay attention to the direction and line arrangement when making the connector of the network cable. If you are not sure, you can refer to this newspaper. Previous articles, or simply ask the technical staff of the computer company to help you with the network cable, so you can avoid a lot of trouble.
(2)Set up a peer-to-peer network

Each computer should be equipped with a network card. The computer as the ICS host should have two network cards (preferably the desktop as the host), one of which is a network card. Connected to the broadband network, the other is connected to the laptop through the network cable, respectively installed the driver of the network card, WindowsXP can automatically identify the vast majority of network cards, in addition to the need to add TCP /IP, NWLinkIPX /SPX /NetBIOSCompatibleTransport , NWLinkNetBIOS and other protocols, this can be right-clicked " Network Neighborhood" →“Properties”→“Local Connections”→“Properties”→“Installation”→“ In the agreement & rdquo;. If all goes well, you can quickly see the other party's computer in "Network Neighborhood" (as shown in Figure 4).

Note: Under normal circumstances, Windows XP will automatically configure the IP address, no longer need to be manually configured.
(3) Configuring ICS Hosts

Before configuring, you need to confirm that there is an active Internet connection on the ICS host (that is, the desktop), that is, check if the ICS host can Normal internet access. Then, you can click on “Control Panel”→“Network Connection”→“Network Task"Select “Set Home or Small Office Network> Task, then “Network Installation Wizard will appear” & rdquo; prompt window, tell you some network installation wizard notes, click twice after the "Next" button will appear the window shown in Figure 5, this step is more critical, please friends carefully.

Now we should choose the first item & ldquo; This computer is directly connected to the Internet. Other computers on my network connect to the Internet through this computer, and then continue to click "Next", the window shown in Figure 6 appears
Select a correct Internet connection (because there are two network cards in the ICS host) Therefore, there are also two Internet connections, one connected to the broadband network and the other to the laptop. If you are not sure, you can go to the "Control Panel /Network Connection" to see it. . The following steps can be left without regard to it, all the way to "Next" & rdquo; can be, until the window of Figure 7, here you need to select "Create a network installation disk", insert a blank floppy disk according to the prompt, according to The wizard prompts you to create a network installation disk.

At this point, the ICS host has been fully configured.
(4) Configuring the ICS Client

Now, we can insert the network installation disk we just created on the desktop into the floppy drive of the laptop, and then double-click "My Computer". , find the "3.5-inch floppy disk (A:)" on the "netsetup.exe" file double-click, the first thing you see is a welcome window, telling you "before you continue, Windows must install some network support files, and possibly Restart your computer. If you are running Windows XP, the wizard will start immediately. Do you want to continue? ”, of course, click "Yes (Y)” After clicking the "Next" button twice, select "Yes" to use the existing shared connection for Internet access (recommended) for this computer. The selection here is exactly the same as on the previous ICS host. In contrast to Figure 6, do friends still remember?
Click on the "Next" button, the wizard gives two choices "To decide the right connection for me" and "Let me choose the connection to my network". From the author's personal experience, it is recommended that friends choose the latter, so that the degree of freedom is greater, click “Next” and then select the connection to connect this computer to other network computers according to the actual situation in Figure 8. Then, just click on the default settings a few times > next step" to end the work of the Network Setup Wizard.

Okay, now go to the laptop and try it out. Can you open IE to browse the web and run QQ? As long as your original "network neighbors" can see each other, then ICS should be no problem.
Note: In order to ensure the smooth implementation of ICS, two computers are required to use the same version of the operating system, which can reduce a lot of trouble.
How about, after such a simple setup, surfing on the broadband fast lane is more comfortable?
