Modify the default open mode of the registry file

Although the data in the registry is very complicated, in order to improve system performance, we have to work on the registry. When you manually modify the registry, it is likely to destroy the contents of the registry. For example, when you accidentally double-click a registry file (*.reg), the system defaults to "merge" all of a sudden. Imported the registry, which can damage the entire system. In fact, we can change the system's response to double-click the registry file from the default "merge" to "edit" to avoid misuse. The specific method is as follows.

Open the "My Computer" window, select the "Folder Options" command under the "Tools" menu, select the "File Type" tab in the pop-up dialog box, select the registry with the extension REG Item, the default opening method indicated in the details is Registry Editor.

Click the "Advanced" button, the "Edit File Type" dialog box will pop up as shown in the figure, select edit in the action list and click the "Set as Default (S)" button. After clicking the "OK" button, after exiting, the default opening method of the *.reg file becomes a notebook.

Editing file types

After changing the above settings, we can export the item through the "Registry Editor" and then double-click the registry. The file will directly start "Notepad" to open the registry file for editing. When the confirmation is correct, it will be imported into the registry, so that it will be safer to modify the registry.
