Windows XP Personal Network Online Firewall Five Steps to Get

A firewall is a set of software or hardware that helps protect your computer from hackers and many computer viruses. Therefore, you should install the firewall before connecting your computer to the network.

If you are using the Windows XP operating system, you can use its built-in network online firewall.

It is worth noting that network online firewalls operate by blocking certain types of potentially harmful network traffic, so it also blocks some useful network communication work. For example, sharing files or printers over a network, applications such as instant messaging transfer files, or as a host for multiplayer games. But we still strongly recommend using a firewall because it helps protect your computer immediately.

Step 1: Turn on the Internet connection firewall. Click [Start], select [Control Panel], and enter the following page, as shown in Figure 1.

Step 2: Select [Network and Internet Connection], then press [Network Connection], as shown in Figure 2.

Step 3: Under the [LAN] or [High Speed Internet] heading, click on the icon and select the connection you want to help protect, as shown in Figure 3.

Step 4: In the left work pane, under [Network Tasks], click [Change Settings for this connection].

Alternatively, right click on the local connection and press [Properties], as shown in Figure 4.

Step 5: On the [Properties] index tab, under [Advanced], select the box next to [Protect my computer and network by restricting or blocking access to this computer from the Internet], such as Figure 5.

Select this box to protect your computer and network.

After selecting this box and closing the [Content] window, the firewall will open. Firewalls can interfere with certain network operations, such as file and print sharing, network-related programs, or online games.

For computer security, using a firewall is only the first important line of defense. You should also use Windows Update and anti-virus software to help protect your computer.
