Accurately calculate the virtual memory required by WinXP

From virtual memory, I believe everyone can say a few words about its role. But how much virtual memory should you set for your computer? Perhaps you will say that 1.5 times the memory capacity is not enough, in fact, these are an estimate, the setting values for different computers are not the same. Now let's use the "counter" provided by the system to measure its exact value.
a preset virtual memory

for our accurate calculations, it is necessary to provide a default virtual memory. On

1. Right-click the desktop "My Computer" icon, the pop-up menu, select "Properties" to open the System Properties window, switch to the "Advanced" tab.

2. Click the "Performance" area of the "Settings" button to open the "Performance Options" window, switch to the "Advanced" tab (Figure 1).
3. Click the "Change" button in the "Virtual Memory" area at the bottom of the window to open the "Virtual Memory" window, select the "Custom Size" option, and enter a value in the initial size and maximum value (Figure 2) The value of the value here does not have much to do with it. Once set, click the "OK" button to save the settings.

Second, calculate virtual memory

1. Enter the control panel, select "performance and maintenance" - "management tools" - "performance."

2. In the left side of the "Performance" window that opens, select "Performance Logs and Alerts" - "Counter Logs".

3. Right-click in the blank space on the right side, select "New Log Settings" from the pop-up menu, enter the name of the log in the "New Log Settings" window that opens, for example, enter "Counter" And after clicking the "OK" button, the "Counter" window will open.

4. Click the "Add Counter" button in the "General" tab of the open window (Figure 3), and set the "Performance Object" to "Paging File" in the "Add Counter" window that opens. ", and select the "Select counter (T) from the list" item, select "%Usage Peak" in the box below.

You must also select "Total" in the box below "Select Sample (I) from the list" (Figure 4), click the "Add" button after selecting it. Then click the "Close" button to return to the "Counter" window.

5. In the "General" tab, it should be noted that the "data sampling interval" in the middle of the dialog box should be set smaller, usually 30 seconds.

6. Switch the window to the "Log File" tab, select "Text File (Comma Separated)" in the "Log File Type" drop-down menu, and note here that in the middle of the dialog box The address of the log file is displayed (Figure 5).

After setting the settings, save the settings. At this time, all you have to do is use the computer according to the normal application, so that the system can record the relevant parameters.

Third, view the results

After a while, open the diary file according to the address of the intermediate log file in Figure 5, at the end of each line is the record of virtual memory Usage (Figure 6), we can see that virtual memory usage has been fluctuating around 137M, so we only need to set the virtual memory to this value.

I believe everyone read this article, is it really wonderful! For users with tight disk space, they don't want to waste disk space, but also want to play the role of virtual memory. Using this method is a good solution to the problem
