Good habits used by WinRAR

Winrar is a compression software we use. Whether you create your own zip file or unzip the zip file downloaded from the Internet, we will use it.
There are a lot of skills about Winrar, but there are real and false ones. In the following article, you should take a good look.
Good habits After decompressing and using
Winrar and resource manager function, we can open or run the files in the compressed package directly in Winrar. Some friends just want to save trouble, they just play double-click directly in the compressed package. If the compressed package is small in size and there are not many files in the package, the file may be opened or run soon after double-clicking. If the compressed package is large in size and there are many files in the package, it may have to wait for a long time (such as Figure).
In fact, playing double-click directly in the compressed package seems to be simple and fast, but Winrar wants to open the files in this package in the background, you must first extract the files in this compressed package in the temporary folder, and then The extracted files will be opened or run in the temporary folder. The reason why you need to wait perfectly for so long is actually waiting for it to decompress.
What's more terrible is that the decompression it performs is only "temporary." If you open a file in the zip file, close Winrar, wait a while to re-open the file in the zip file, Winrar will re-extract once again. Do you say that Winrar can not be "slow"?
So, the first good habit introduced in this article is: the files in the large compression package, it is best not to open or run directly in Winrar. It should be decompressed manually before using it.

Good habits two green software "decompression to XX"
Now green software is very popular, but some friends are decompressing green software When you pack, you always like to "unzip to the current folder" in the right mouse button, and then you will watch a lot of scattered files appearing in front of you...
This is not only chaotic, It is also very inconvenient to manage. Because the green program does not have the help of the system's uninstall function, it needs to be manually deleted when uninstalling. If you accidentally pile up the files in several green packages, it will be difficult to delete one of them later.
So, the second good habit is: when the right mouse button is decompressed, do not select "Extract to the current folder" and re-select "Extract to XXX\\" (XXX is the folder name with the same name as the compressed package, as shown in Figure 2), extract the files in the package to the corresponding folder, which is convenient for classification management.

Good habits Three decompression do not just drag
Friends who are still playing the classic machine may have had such experience - after opening the compressed package with Winrar Drag and drop a few files that you want into a folder. At the moment the finger just leaves the mouse button, the hard disk starts to frantically turn madly, and at the same time it makes a squeaky voice. And the sadness of the taste.
In windows, mouse drag and drop is a very convenient operation, but dragging files directly from the compressed package looks very convenient, but the read and write load of the hard disk is greatly enhanced. Different from the right mouse button decompression, Winrar handles the decompression and decompression, first extracts the file to a temporary folder, and then cuts it into the target folder. Each time a file is decompressed, the hard disk must have at least two file read and write operations and one delete operation. If the temporary folder is in the same partition as the target folder, this has little effect on speed, but if it is no longer the same partition, the decompression speed will be significantly slower. This is also very understandable, the personnel transfer between the two units, the formalities are more complicated than the internal staff of the unit...
Of course, we can also set the partition where the temporary folder is located. In Winrar, click the menu "Options" - "Settings" - "Path", and modify the "temporary file decompressed file" to the same partition as the target folder (Figure 3).

This way, the third good habit is: try to use the right mouse button menu to decompress, instead of using drag and drop decompression. If you must drag and unzip a large compressed file, it is best to modify the location of the temporary folder.
Bala Bala Test
The front of Barabara talked so much, the urban air gap is talking about white teeth, the actual effect can not be seen. Don't worry, I will send the relevant test data to everyone immediately.
From the data table, you can see the impact of the temporary folder location and decompression mode on the Winrar decompression speed. When the temporary folder and the target folder are in the same partition, the right mouse button decompresses and decompresses the decompression speed, and the difference is not visible to the naked eye; when they are not in the same partition, the speed advantage of the right mouse button decompression is obvious. If both the temporary folder and the target folder are in a system partition with more disk fragmentation, the decompression will be slower.
In the test conducted by the author, in addition to the techniques mentioned in this article, it also additionally verified some techniques for improving the speed of rar on the Internet. The test data shows that the multi-threading of Winrar is opened, and the effect is obviously reflected in the compression operation, and the decompression speed is basically unaffected. The legend that changing the priority can increase the decompression speed has no effect under normal circumstances.
The test platform configuration I use is like this.
CPU is Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300, memory is Kingston DDR2 800 2GBX2, hard disk is Western Digital WD5001ABYS (500GB SATA2 16MB), system is Windows XP Professional SP3, Winrar is 3.71 simplified Chinese version.
The test was conducted a total of 3 times, and the form was filled in, which is the average value of the data read in 3 tests.
