Claiming 16 computer dealers to pre-install pirated Windows, does not rule out legal proceedings may be

New Beijing News (Reporter Lin Qiling) Since 2008, "black screen" action, Microsoft Anti-piracy operations in China are constantly escalating. Yesterday, Microsoft China announced that it will launch security preaching activities in more than 40 cities across the mainland, and will take action against 16 branded computer dealers pre-installed with pirated Windows in Beijing. Microsoft said it is communicating with dealers and does not rule out legal proceedings. This is also a new round of anti-piracy initiated by the company following the infringement lawsuit against nine domestic computer dealers in July this year.

16 are branded computer authorized dealers

Microsoft revealed that it has recently been applied to Beijing Changtuo Ruixin Technology Development Co., Ltd., Beijing Chenyang Fucheng Technology Co., Ltd., Beijing Dingcheng Guozheng Commerce and Trade Co., Ltd. 16 computer pre-installed pirated Windows computer dealers such as Beijing Dongjin Yangsheng Trading Co., Ltd. and Beijing Hongguang Century Trading Co., Ltd. took action, including Acer, Asus, Dell, Founder, Shenzhou, Qixi, HP and so on. These 16 computer dealers are dealers authorized by the brand.

Yesterday, reporters searched the information of these 16 dealers online and found that only a few of them had official websites. The reporter then called the website and did not receive a response.

Microsoft said it believes that these pirated systems are not installed by manufacturers, but are installed by individuals or downstream supply chains to replace the original non-Windows operating system. It is understood that the action of these 16 dealers is only the beginning, Microsoft will launch a series of actions in more than 40 cities across the country.

Nick Psyhogeos, vice president of Microsoft's OEM division, said that dealers should stop piracy and give Microsoft financial compensation. Microsoft will save evidence and communicate with dealers. If dealers refuse to be responsible for their actions, then Microsoft will resort to legal means to solve the problem.

Suppressing piracy or stimulating genuine sales

Analysts say Microsoft is facing multiple challenges to crack down on piracy or to stimulate Windows 8 sales.

At present, Microsoft is being squeezed out by Apple and Google (microblogging) in the tablet and mobile phone market. Surf sales are not ideal, and the PC market is very sluggish. For the first time in 2011, sales fell and Windows sales declined.

Yesterday, Microsoft said that since October 2012, Microsoft has stopped selling Windows systems in China in the form of CDs, DVDs or USB flash drives. After the inventory of the old version of Windows (referred to as Windows 7) has been digested, the way to obtain genuine Windows in the future is only the factory pre-installation and Microsoft official website download two channels.

Microsoft China did not disclose the sales of Windows 8, and made it clear that it will not cut prices to stimulate sales of Windows.

After several years of hard work, the government software has been greatly improved. According to Microsoft, the judiciary has paid attention to it, and the amount of compensation is higher than before, but in the personal consumer market, computer software piracy is still very common. Next year, we will take double action to increase the intensity of cracking down on piracy.

In 2004, Microsoft's Windows operating system in China had a piracy rate of 90%. In 2006, this proportion declined, but still reached 82%. Yesterday, Microsoft refused to disclose the current piracy rate, only said "doing a long way to go".

91% of computers have been tampered with security settings"

Nick Psyhogeos said that Microsoft conducted a sample survey of PCs sold in traditional IT stores and malls in more than 40 cities across the country.

The results show that 91% of computers pre-installed with pirated Windows have been tampered with default security settings, or there are other obvious security vulnerabilities. 59% have been infected with malware before sales, and 72% have changed their browser settings. ”
