Recently, the author of a friend as long as the installation of new software, will pop up "registry is full," the Report the error dialog. Friends feel very strange, is there a capacity limit in the registry? Then how to break through this capacity limit? Today we will explore ways to check the size of the registry and break the system registry capacity limit (for example, Windows 2000).

Registry function

The registry contains many important data in the system, it helps Windows control hardware, application software, user environment and Windows interface, many software and program parameters are Save here. Without the registry, the operating system will not be able to obtain the necessary information to run and control applications, hardware devices, and respond appropriately to user input. In other words, the registry stores the necessary information in the system, the path to load each application, the order in which the programs run when the system starts, and so on. If the registry file is deleted, the computer will not start properly. The registry in a computer is like a blood vessel in a person's body, which directs where the blood flows.

Query the size of the current registry file

We can understand the current size of the registry by saving the file query method and system property view method. Run the "regedit" command to open the Registry Editor and you will see five branches under "My Computer" (Figure 1). The registry file saved by the save file query method is the sum of the contents of the five branches, and the capacity displayed in the system property view method is only a part of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and all the other four branches, so the difference is relatively large. The size of the registry that is viewed by the system feature view method after different users log in to the system desktop is also very different. For example, the size of the registry displayed by the user with a common user account is 20MB. After logging in to the desktop with the default Administrator, the registry size is 19MB because it is not used for a long time.

We can see the registry size of the saved REG file by right-clicking the property. The computer's registry capacity is 33MB.

System Feature Viewing Method

Right-click on my computer and select Properties to open the System Properties window. Select the "Advanced" tab and then click on "Performance Options" to open the Performance Options window. Tip: By default, the maximum size of the registry is determined by two factors, one is the size of the virtual memory, and the other is the size of the current registry. . So the maximum registry values for different computers are different.
