6. Try System Restore

If you are using Windows XP, you can try System Restore: Select "Start → Programs → Accessories → System Tools → System Restore" to open the window shown.

Select the "Restore my computer to an earlier time" radio button and click the "Next" button. Select a restore point and click the "Next" button to follow the wizard to restore the system. Under normal circumstances, we select the most recent restore point restore when restoring the system. If the machine is still unstable, then select the nearest restore point.
Windows 9x/Me

1.Starting from the registry

After the installation of Windows 9x, save the first normal running Windows9x system information on the boot disk (usually C The system.1ST file in the root directory does not change with the system configuration of Windows 9x. Before reinstalling the system, you can restart the computer, press F8, select Command Prompt Only to boot to the DOS prompt, and enter the following command:
attrib -h -r -s
c:system.1st
attrib -h -r -s
c:windowssystem.dat
copy c:system.1st c:windowssystem.dat
attrib hrs
c:system.1st
attrib Hrs
c:windowssystem.dat

This way, we can restore the registry to the original state through the System.1st file, and often solve the problem after restarting the system.

2. Manually restore the registry

Start the computer to DOS, then enter the C:WINDOWSCOMMAND directory, type scanreg /restore, press Enter. Then select the most recent, normally started registry, and then press Enter. When finished, the system prompts to restart.

3.Using the extraction tool

If Windows has some file errors at startup, you can write down these file names. You can put the Windows 98 installation CD into the CD-ROM drive, then start the computer with the Windows 98 boot disk, select the first item in the multiple configuration menu, and let the system create a virtual disk in the memory (the drive letter is the last physical hard disk drive letter). The next letter, such as F:) and the CD-ROM drive (the drive letter is the next letter of the virtual disk drive letter, such as G:), then enter the disk (such as F:) to run the Ext.exe file.

When the screen displays "Please Enter the path to Windows CAB files(a:):", enter the path to the Windows 98 installation CD (eg G:Win98) and the screen will display "Pleas enter the name( s) of the files(s) you want to extract:", enter the previously noted file name as required.

When the screen displays "Please enter the path to exract to:", enter the directory where the file is located, usually in the system directory of Windows.

When the "Is this okay?(y/n):" message appears, after entering "y" to confirm, the system will automatically search for the disc, extract and restore the file to the system, and it will take effect after restarting. . Of course, if there are multiple files damaged, you can also extract them one by one.

4. Partial Recovery Installation

If the system does not completely crash, we can also use the partial recovery installation program of Windows 98. The program can be found in the Tools folder of the Windows 98 CD: into the DOS state, enter the folder of the Windows 98 installation CD, run "Pcrestor", the installation program will start. This installation is about the same speed as a hard drive, but it does not cause data loss. At the same time, when you reset the hardware, it is usually done automatically.
