Weight Loss for Windows 98 Registry Database

After a period of use of Windows 98, the registry database will be full of garbage, which affects the speed of the system, which requires us to remove the garbage in an appropriate way. Using a dedicated registry database cleanup software can of course solve the problem, but if the user does not have the software, it does not matter, the following method can also be used to clear the "garbage" purpose:

1) Start the registry editor.

2) Execute the Registry Editor "Registry" menu"Export Registry File" command, and the system pops up "Export Registry File" dialog box (as shown).

3) In the "Export Registry File" dialog box, select the directory where Windows 98 is located in the "Save in" column; select "All" option in the "Export Range" column In the "Save as type" column, select the "registry file" option; finally enter the name of the registry file you want to save in the "filename" field (for example, "BF").

4) Click the "Save" button, the Registry Editor will export all the useful information in the entire registry database to a registry file named "BF.REG" The file is in text file format and can be viewed and edited by software such as Notepad.

5) Close the Registry Editor.

6) Turn off Windows 98 and enter the DOS state of Windows 98.

7) Delete the two registry database files (SYSTEM.DAT, USER.DAT) of Windows 98.

8) Start the disk cache program SMARTDRV.EXE (the registry database file is large, if you do not use the disk cache, recovery of the registry will take a long time).

9) Execute the "REGEDIT /C BF.REG" command to generate a new registry database using the registry information saved in the BF.REG file.

10) Restart your computer.

This way we have achieved the goal of removing system garbage, and the system efficiency is much higher than before!
