I use a character map to input the international phonetic symbols.

I am a teacher and a computer enthusiast. As computers become more and more popular in teaching, we encounter countless problems every day, often requiring technical assistance. But I found that if we are willing to use our brains, we can solve many problems that arise in use.

Once, an English-speaking teacher asked me how to enter an international phonetic symbol into my computer. At first, I thought this was a very easy thing to do, but whether you open the “insert”→“special symbol" in the Word document, it is also the "character mapping table" tool that comes with Windows. If you choose a variety of fonts, you can't find the international phonetic symbols.

Editor's Note: Windows comes with the "character mapping table" in the "start" "start”> program”"attachment”“system tool”, if not, can be in &ldquo ; control panel & rdquo; double-click "Add /Remove Programs", in the pop-up dialog box, select "Windows Installer" column, double-click "System Tools", install “ character mapping table & rdquo;.

Back home, this problem has once again appeared in my mind. After some meditation, my attention has been concentrated on the character map: "How the character map program recognizes various symbols?" And insert them into the document? ” I opened this app again and pondered it.

Suddenly, my eyes are bright: the character mapping table & ldquo; fonts & rdquo; how to appear in the drop-down menu is not the system comes with Chinese fonts? “Chinese Huayun, Huawenxing, Great Wall Xinwei Tablet, Great Wall Travel ……” Of course, some fonts did not appear, such as Wending fonts and Han Ding fonts, but this is fine, the important thing is that it gave I am a looming hint: some fonts installed on the computer, some can appear as a specific font in the character map.

Following this line of thought, I have carefully studied the various fonts in the character map, and I have not found which one of them can display the international phonetic symbols. So, is it because there is no font on my machine that can display international phonetic symbols? With this question in mind, I searched my mind for the fonts that touched the international phonetic symbols.

I thought of two softwares, namely: Kingsoft and Orient Express. Both of these softwares have the function of catching words, and they all have normal international phonetic symbols in their wording window. According to this idea, I open the “Find Files” window and find two font files in the directory of Kingsoft and Orient Express: Ksphonet.ttf and SunvPhonet.ttf, and then use Windows “Install New Fonts”. Function, install them separately to the Windows system, and then open the character map. Sure enough, in its "font" menu, there are two new fonts, "Kingsoft Phonetic plain" and "Sunv phonetic Plain". The former is in Kingsoft, and the latter is in the Orient Express. The symbols in the fonts are really international phonetic symbols.

There are also differences between the two fonts, that is: the fonts in Kingsoft PowerWord display more symbols, the fonts in the Oriental Express show fewer symbols, more refined, easy to find, but some phonetic symbols may not.

Try again now, you can type the international phonetic symbol ^_^ in Word or WordPad, but you will soon be happy with —— this is simply too slow: find one in the window Tone, click on it, then click “Select”, click “Copy”, then switch to the text editing window and paste it. In this way, a symbol and a symbol "copy" & rdquo;, "paste" rdquo;, it is too slow to be intolerable.

After my repeated exploration, I finally found a way to speed up: after selecting a letter in the character map, click the "Select" button, and then click the next phonetic symbol. Symbol, click “Select “ button …… until the phonetic symbol of a complete word is selected, then click the “Copy” button, so that you can copy the phonetic symbols of a word to the editor at one time. In the window. how about it? Is it much faster?

There is still faster. Since there are many international phonetic symbols written in the same way as the Latin alphabet, we can use the English keyboard to input some international phonetic symbols. So, do we have to switch between the character mapping table and the word processing software at any time? No, you can use the mouse to click on the input box below the character mapping table window (copy the character & rdquo; in which the symbol you selected is displayed), enter the international phonetic symbol that can be input by keyboard, and then use the above symbol Display the window, click the mouse to enter the phonetic symbol that can't be input by the keyboard, wait until the completed phonetic input of a word, then click “copy”, paste them into the word processing software.

The above is how I found out how to input international phonetic symbols in Word, WordPad, Notepad and other word processing software. I hope that everyone will criticize. This article is contributed by the Starling Network!
