Proxy server (WinGate) advanced settings and application skills collection (2)

The WinGate4.3WWW proxy provides HTTP buffering. HTTP buffering means that recently accessed graphics, HTML documents or other files are stored on the WINGATE machine, allowing faster access when the next time the LAN user accesses the same content again. WinGate only caches HTTP requests (ie, does not cache FTPURLs), and WinGate does not cache any requests that include query strings (such as responses to table queries). In addition, administrators can specify cache rules.

The FTP proxy service provides access to the FTP server, but requires the FTP client to use the "username@hostname" method to access the files of the remote FTP server through the firewall, such as the use of a wide range of CuteFTP, GetRight and other FTP clients.

If the FTP server or WEB server is installed and running on the WinGate machine, you must ensure that the corresponding proxy service uses a different port number. This is because at any one time, only one application on a machine can listen on a particular port.

The following describes the proxy service configuration for some widely used Internet applications.

FTP proxy service

WinGate configuration: enter the FTP proxy server properties screen, enter the port number in the proxy port option, if the 21 port is used by the NT FTP server, you can choose an unused Ports, such as 8021, add an 8021 firewall port for all FTP client applications.

The configuration of the client varies with the software used by the client. The most commonly used CuteFTP2.0 and GetRightV3.1 are used as examples.

In the menu bar of CuteFTP2.0, select Settings under FTP menu, then select Options..., pop up an option dialog box, click the firewall tab, enter the FTP proxy server in the host and port entries. Address and port number (should be consistent with WinGate configuration). In the Type group box, select the "USERuser@site" item and check the "Enablefirewallaccess" box. Note that when setting its host properties in its SiteManager, you need to select usefirewall in its advanced properties.

Configure GetRight using the ConfigureGetRight dialog. Select the Proxy tab, check the Useproxyserver box, and then select the next level of FTPProxy tab. In the server:port entry, enter the hostname (or IP address) of the FTP proxy server: port number, for example, 172.24.166.6:8021. Select USERwithnologin in the FTPProxy drop-down menu for otheroptions.... After setting, select the Login tab, and in UsernameandPasswordstotrywhenlogin, add one: Server/Path: *Username: anonymous (or available username) Password: Enter the email address or password.
POP3 Email System Agent Service

The POP3 email system has two important protocols, one is SMTP, which is a simple mail transfer protocol for sending mail to the mail server, and the other is POP3 protocol. The Post Office Protocol version 3 is used to retrieve mail from the mail server. The WinGatePOP3 proxy can access the POP3 server on the Internet to retrieve the email, and the SMTP proxy can access the SMTP server to send the email.

Set the POP3 mail proxy service as follows:

Enter the POP3 service configuration dialog box and enter the port number used by the POP3 proxy server, which is usually 110 ports. If port 110 has been used by the local machine For POP3 server use, you need to assign another port to the POP3 proxy server. The Delimiter (delimiter) defaults to # and generally does not need to be changed. If the local intranet uses a POP3 server, in the non-proxy request tag, the non-proxy request can be directed to the intranet POP3 server.
