Some older AMD processors cannot install Win8.1

Computer Store News: Today, Microsoft confirmed that it has cancelled Win8.1 support for some older AMD processors.

Previously, users reported that AMD's legacy CPUs, Athlon x2 64 and Opteron 185 lack the CMPXCHG16b command. Win8 MS obviously uses a software solution to support the CMPXCHG16b instruction, so Win8 works fine; but Win8.1 cannot be installed on a computer that uses these CPUs.

A Microsoft spokesperson said that the removal of Win8.1 support for some older AMD processors is to improve the security of Windows, but the range of processors affected by this is very small. Obviously, users who are bothered by this problem need to replace the latest version of the processor or motherboard with their PC so that they can use Win 8.1.
