Windows 8 has many mistakes and it is difficult to compete with OS X 10.8.

It must be said that Metro is an innovation of the touch interface. When the market is full of iOS and iOS-like interfaces, the emergence of Metro makes people shine. Metro has a simple and elegant way of organizing information and efficient operation modes. Ribbon is also a good interface to clearly classify and display functions. However, Windows Phone may be a huge success, and Win8 using Metro and Ribbon is difficult to succeed.

First, Metro and traditional interface hodgepodge

Metro, like other touch-screen systems, uses an immersive interface that focuses on only one task. (But in the PC, who can stand the big white screen, only half a minute before the word appears "App Store"?) Microsoft uses the traditional interface as a program in Metro, which will be two completely different interfaces. Come together. (Do you think that the window is made square, we can't see that this is a traditional interface?)

Simply putting two completely different interfaces together is the advantage of combining them? Can this improve the efficiency of your work? I am afraid that it is not suitable for keyboard and mouse operations, nor for touch operations. Microsoft should abandon an interface and keep it better.

Microsoft has also added a settings interface in Metro, not only does not simplify the complex settings of the control panel, computer management interface, console, registry, etc., but a simplified version of the Metro interface control panel.

Although Win8's kernel technology may have some improvements, the user interface is a huge reversal —— the uniformity of the interface can not be maintained.

Second, there is still no intelligent software management method

Win8 has a Windows Store and sells various Metro software. In the Windows Store, the software does not need to specify the installation directory, it will not generate any junk files, and the update process is extremely simple. However, traditional interface programs are not available for sale in the Windows Store.

In the traditional interface, we still have to endure the process of writing junk files everywhere, as well as a registry that holds a lot of junk information. All sorts of so-called security and optimization software is done by the system itself. (Windows Defender integrated MSE is a big step forward) programs can still access any user file without restrictions.

If Microsoft is determined to adopt a smarter approach to software management, it is necessary to reduce compatibility with older programs.

Third, over-reliance on compatibility with older programs

Windows has always maintained good compatibility with older applications, which is one of the reasons for its success. However, nowadays, the old program has seriously dragged down the efficiency of the system, and the bloated API has made the new program developers daunting. Windows success depends on the richness of the program, but blind compatibility with old programs can lead to many system problems.

All common programs and almost all less frequently used programs are updated with Windows updates to ensure stability and support for new system features. Moreover, compatibility is always relative. In the case of old programs, it is difficult to guarantee perfect operation of any new system. It is better to reduce support for old programs and adopt better system architecture and program management methods to ensure the efficiency of the program.

Fourth, reserved 32-bit

Why do 32-bit systems remain when all new computers support 64-bit? (Someone may say that I upgraded my computer N years ago to 1G memory and barely met Win8 requirements. But don't you worry about running slow? Even if you are not afraid of cards, would you buy genuine Win8 license for this computer?) 32-bit has increased the hassle for programmers. Most developers only develop 32-bit programs to save trouble, and it is difficult to take advantage of the performance of 64-bit systems, sometimes with compatibility issues. Consumers will also be annoyed about how to choose.

(I have installed three versions of IE 10 in the system: 32-bit version, 64-bit version, Metro version) Now Win8 is still in the test period, I hope that the official version will no longer have a 32-bit version. It is.

V. Win8 on arm (WinRT) and WP8 positioning unknown

Microsoft decided to develop Win8.Win8 on ARM for ARM processor-based tablet, there is no way to run the program on x86 platform, and WP8 The only difference is whether there is a traditional interface. It is not easy to use the traditional interface on the touch screen. If there is no traditional program support, there is no reason to convince the user to purchase the ARM version of Win8. The traditional interface is bloated and huge. If it is directly transplanted, it is difficult to smooth the current arm processor level. run.

Microsoft decided to use WP on small devices such as mobile phones and Win8 on tablets. But hardware vendors don't make the product boundaries as clear as Apple, and there will be many transition products, such as Galaxy Note. What system should I use at that time?

Users certainly want to use the most versatile and best system. If there is no Win8 on arm, I believe WP will be able to sell better.

Let's look at OS X Mountain Lion in these areas:

First, add the features of the mobile system to the PC system

Mountain Lion will memo in iOS, The game center and notification center added OS X and changed the interface to optimize the operation of the mouse and keyboard. (Apple also added iPhoto and other programs to iOS, and changed the interface to optimize for touch operations)

This seems to be a system integration, in fact, it is far from Microsoft's approach. Apple does not directly mix the features of different devices to ensure a user experience.

Second, use the Mac AppStore management program

There is no virus on the AppStore. Program management is very simple and easy to update. Each program can only access its own directory, and the settings and temporary files exist in its own directory. If there is not enough disk, the temporary file of the program will be deleted automatically. The uninstaller leaves almost no residue.

Third, hardware and system cooperation

Mac first adopts UEFI, UEFI provides fast self-test and startup, and also guarantees the unification of boot and startup interface. When you choose the boot method before entering OS X, the Mac can provide a graphical interface. (Win8 can only load the system first on most computers, and then provide a graphical interface selection system. If you choose another system, the computer will restart first.)

Driver and EFI firmware upgrades can also be automatically updated through the system. carry out. (The perfect cooperation of hardware and software is a must, no one wants to see a system function with three shortcuts — — hardware, system, driver)

Fourth, using pure 64-bit

OS X has never been divided into 32-bit and 64-bit systems, and Mountain Lion runs on pure 64-bit. Developers also develop 64-bit programs by default, ensuring efficient execution of the program and full utilization of the hardware.

Summary:

Apple entered the post-PC era centered on iCloud (the post-PC era does not mean that PCs will disappear or be replaced by mobile devices, just that PCs will lose their digital centers. Status, the same status as the rest of the digital equipment, and the center will be transferred to the cloud). The emergence of Win8 reflects that the thinking of Microsoft PC Center is still ingrained, and is reluctant to admit that the remaining devices are equivalent to PCs, and have to develop PC systems to other devices.

It is not difficult to see that Win8 is a product of a group of product managers arguing and compromising each other. Win8 does not solve the long-standing legacy of the old version of the system, and it has not become simple and efficient, but has become complicated and difficult to use.
