Adding

to Windows 2000 Network Components After users install Windows 2000 Server, they may encounter situations where users do not have all network services, network protocols, or network tools when they install the system

Components are installed in the system. When a user needs a server system to initiate a management or service function (for example, DHCP service, Windows Internet naming service, or network monitoring function), the function or service cannot be started due to the lack of network components. At this point, the user will need to manually add network components to the system. This section shows you how to add unmounted network components to your system.

1. Click the Add Network Component hyperlink in the My Network Places window to open the Windows Optional Network Components Wizard dialog box, as shown in Figure 8-7. In the "Components" list box in the dialog box, the system provides the network components that users can choose to install, including: management and monitoring tools, other network files and print services and network services.

2. The user can click on the checkbox next to the component option to confirm the installation of the component. If the checkbox is grayed out when the user selects a certain type of component, the system will only install a portion of the component. The user can click on the "Details" button or double-click on the component option to open the Class Component Details dialog box to specifically select a subcomponent to be installed.

Here we choose to install the directory service migration tool and the Windows Internet Naming Service (WINS) subcomponent for installation.

3. Double-click the "Manage and Monitor Tools" option in the "Components" list box to open the "Manage and Monitor Tools" dialog box,

in the "Management and Monitoring Tool Subcomponents" Select the check box next to the Directory Service Migration Tool option in the list box and click the OK button to return to the Windows Optional Network Components Wizard dialog box.

5. Double-click the Network Service option in the Components list box in the Windows Optional Network Components Wizard dialog box to open the Network Services dialog box, as shown in Figure 8-9.

6. Select the Windows Internet Naming Service (WINS) option in the "Sub-components of Network Services" list box and click the "OK" button to return to the "Windows Optional Network Components Wizard" again. Dialog.

7. After clicking the "Next" button in the "Windows Optional Network Components Wizard" dialog box, the system will automatically find the files needed to install the components in the Windows 2000 Server installation source disk. If the user has not placed the installation source disk into the CD drive, the system will automatically open a dialog box prompting the user to insert the Windows 2000 Server installation CD.

8. Users need to insert the installation CD of Windows 2000 Server into the CD-ROM drive, and then click the "OK" button, the system will automatically install and configure the selected network components
