12Windows XP Home Edition can also be used with IIS

. Many home users have Windows XP Home Edition installed on their computer. Compared to Windows XP Professional, Windows XP Home Edition does not support dual CPU, multi-language, EFS file system encryption, and IIS (Internet Information Services). Therefore, if you want to learn IIS, you will find that Windows XP Home Edition cannot install IIS or PWS at all. As a general rule, we can only reinstall Windows XP Professional or downgrade using Windows 2000 Professional, but today we are going to talk about how to successfully install and use IIS on Windows XP Home Edition.

Step 1

First we need to prepare a Windows 2000 installation CD, assuming your Windows XP Home Edition is installed in "C: Windows", start the Notepad program, open the dialog box Select to open "C:Windowsinfsysoc.inf", find the "[Components]" section, and continue to find lines like "iis=iis.dll,OcEntry,iis.inf,hide,7", replace this line with "iis =iis2.dll, OcEntry, IIS2.inf,, 7", after saving the file.

Step 2

Insert the Windows 2000 Professional CD into the CD-ROM drive, use Winrar to open the iis.dl_ and iis.in_ files in the i386 directory of the CD-ROM, which will be decompressed. The obtained "iis.dll" is renamed to "iis2.dll", copied to the "C:Windowssystem32setup" directory; renamed "iis.inf" to "IIS2.inf" and copied to the "C:Windowsinf" directory.

Step 3

Open the Control Panel, click the "Add Remove Program" icon, and then click the "Add/Remove Windows Components" button on the left navigation bar of the window, in the "Open" In the Windows Components Wizard, select the check box in front of Internet Information Services (IIS). Click on the "Details" button in the lower right corner to open a dialog where we can select the content of the IIS components that need to be installed. After the selection is complete, click the "OK" button, return to the interface and click "Next", the system will start copying files.

Note: If the system needs to insert the Windows XP CD during the installation process, or if you need to provide the "exch_adsiisex.dll" file, it is because you installed IIS by default. To fix this, just clear the checkbox in front of the "SMTP Service" option. If you enter the window, the "Internet Information Services (IIS)" option cannot be selected, then it is likely that the "iis.dl_" and "IIS.in_" you are using are extracted from Windows XP Professional, just replace it with Windows 2000. These two files in the Professional Edition are fine.

Step 4

After the installation is complete, you can open "Control Panel → Performance and Options → Administrative Tools" to view "Internet Information Service Management". Open IE again, enter "http://localhost
" in the address bar and press Enter to verify that IIS is running normally.

After verification, several services such as WWW and FTP can be run normally on Windows XP Home Edition after such modification. However, IIS installed through such processing may have some unknown defects in its operation.
