How to upgrade Win XP with Style XP to SP2

As the author is increasingly eager to taste the late SP2, and too lazy to go to the Microsoft website to continue to patch, so the installation of the newer SP2 RC2 a few days ago is going to be a sneak peek. I am recording my installation notes and I hope to help you.

1. If you have not installed software such as style XP that changes the Windows look and feel interface, please ignore this.

Every time I reinstall the system, I will install Style XP to personalize my computer. You can download the theme at http://www.themexp.org/. For example, if you search for keywords like Mac, apple, etc., you will see an exciting Apple interface. As a result, xp is in addition to failure when installing SP2. After some toss, I finally found that uninstalling Style XP is necessary.

I downloaded the Windows XP SP2 RC2 Build 2149 Simplified Chinese version compressed from the website. After extracting it to a folder, double-click the update in the Update folder of I386. Exe, the Service Pack 2 installer error is notified later (see Figure 1).

Ok, this question is not easy? Open Style XP, select Boot screens, select the boot screen as "ntoskrnl" (XP default boot), then click "Apply Boot Screen", then reboot, when I install SP2 again, it will go all the way.

(Also note: whether it is the Windows default boot screen or the default login page, it is not allowed to be deleted under Style xp.) In addition, you can use other methods to restore the boot screen to the system default boot screen. the best way is to run the style XP and select " Boot screens " after, click on options " Reset Boot.ini file ". you can (see Figure style xp.jpg)

Figure 2

Another way is to find Boot.ini directly in the root directory of the C drive, open it with Notepad and manually delete the "/KERNEL= command option" (for example, delete /KERNEL=kernel1.exe Word), this method is more dangerous for novices. Of course, if your boot.ini still saves the startup options of the Windows XP default screen, you can choose to use it to boot, and then you can install SP2.

When I installed SP2 successfully, I immediately felt the experience of xp's new firewall and IE's ad blocking. But when I restarted xp again, when I turned the default windows startup screen and was about to enter the login screen, the machine suddenly Blue screen Turned off. I naturally thought that I must have changed the login screen using style XP. I tried to enter safe mode (press F8 when I started the computer), but fortunately, after a hard disk test, I finally started successfully. I simply deleted Style XP and restarted normally. With the pleasant boot music, I finally entered Windows XP which I am familiar with. Thank Goodness!

When I wrote this article, I followed the above. The installation error Q327101 mentioned in the Microsoft Knowledge Treasures query related content, I learned that there was a similar problem when XP SP1 patch was installed (unfortunately I have not experienced this installation process), Microsoft explained that the reason is:
"This (error) behavior can occur if there is a modified version of the Ntoskrnl.exe file on the computer that uses the /KERNEL command option in the Boot.ini file. This is because of a situation installed on the computer A third-party program customizes the graphics that are displayed when the computer starts."

The solution is similar to the above, but Microsoft also suggested Before installing the patch, you must first delete the program in the control panel. Therefore, in order to be safe, please correct your style XP before installing the patch.
Next, I intend to personalize my boot interface as always. Go to the official website of Style XP to find out if there is a new version of Style XP and find out if it supports SP2. I found that there have been many updates to Style XP recently to accommodate different SP2 versions (looked at it, my original version is also relatively new! Version 2.01, supported to SP2 build 2082). I have the latest version 2.10. After the installation, I found that some of the original boot interface files will cause Style XP to run incorrectly by clicking on the application (see Figure 3).

Figure 3

But there are a few you can continue to use. It seems that the original login interface file also needs to be updated.

Now, my system boot screen is Inuyasha, and the login interface is Apple. I can say that I am very satisfied with the current state of the system.

2. This is about the details of IE. If you don't make a website, you can ignore this. First of all, the new IE will block pop-up ads, which is well known, but you don't necessarily know that IE can block ads, and other browsers that use IE kernel can't block (for example, the old version of MYIE2 I have been using still can't. Blocking Chinaren's pop-up ads), which means that the principle of IE blocking ads is probably similar to plug-ins like other Internet assistants, so if you don't use IE directly, you can't appreciate Microsoft's improvements to IE. Second, IE's review of form submissions seems to have changed a lot (probably a new version of the unresolved bug). For such a table to upload files from this machine: <input name="file" type="file">, if you upload the file in the normal steps, for example, you click "Browse", select from the local hard disk A picture: c:/photo/cat.gif, of course, no error will occur, but when you enter some characters in the box of the file path (the path or file name does not exist), and then click the upload confirmation button You will find that the webpage cannot be submitted normally, and even a suspended animation will occur. Before the installation of SP2, such a form can be submitted, but the submission is empty. So when designing a website or using a local upload, you should avoid this.

3. Friends who use notebooks must use AC power when installing SP2, otherwise SP2 can not agree! (See Figure 4)

Figure 4

I feel SP2: well known, at the expense of compatibility with SP2 to improve their safety, so some past The software may not be able to run. Therefore, when the system has problems that have never been seen before, you should consider whether it is caused by software incompatibility. If so, please try to upgrade the software or use other software.
