Solve four typical failures of IE in the system.

IE is an important part of the Windows system. It is the most used and most troublesome part. The following are four typical examples that I found and solved during the use. failure.

Fault 1: Unable to change the security level of IE

Symptom: Open the right mouse button of IE on the desktop and select “Properties”, switch to “Security” tab and find “Custom Level” And the "Default Level" button becomes gray and not selectable, so we can't change the security level attribute of IE.

Resolution: This is due to the addition of a "SecChangeSettings" key in the registry. Open "Start → Run", enter regedit to open the Registry Editor, expand the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Policies\\Microsoft\\Internet Explorer\\Control Panel] branch, delete the "SecChangeSettings" button in the right window, and restart IE. This fault can be resolved.

Fault 2: "Advanced" option in "Internet Options" is missing

Symptom: Open IE's Property Settings Center and switch to the "Advanced" tab. In general, there are many advanced The option settings, but I found that my "advanced" label does not have any option settings, but a piece of white.

Solution: The solution to this failure was found on Microsoft's official website http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=273492), the cause of the failure is "This issue can occur if the following registry key Is missing or damaged: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Software\\Microsoft\\Internet Explorer\\AdvancedOptions.", that is, "AdvancedOptions" in the registry is missing or damaged. Here, the "official answer" given by Microsoft is to reinstall IE. In fact, we can solve it in a simpler way.

Method 1: Export the "AdvancedOptions" key from another registry of the same system, then merge it into your own registry, and restart the system to solve the problem.

Method 2: Open "Start → Run", then enter "REGSVR32 /n /i INETCPL.CPL" (without the quotation marks), confirm the pop-up window, restart IE to restore the original.
Fault 3: "Pop-up Blocker" is disabled

Phenomenon: After the SP1 patch is applied to the Windows SP1 system, the process of using IE found that IE does not have the function of pop-up blocking, and opens IE. The "Pop-up Blocker" option is not found in the Tools menu, and "Internet Options" is turned on and switched to the "Privacy" tab, where "Organization Pop-ups" and "Settings" are grayed out.
Solution: Open the Registry Editor, expand the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Sof-tware\\Policies\\Microsoft\\Internet Explorer\\Restrictions] branch, and then change the value of the "NoPopupManagement" key in the right window to 1, or this delete. Close the registry and restart IE to solve the problem.

Fault 4: IE plug-in management function is disabled by the administrator

Phenomenon: After upgrading from Windows XP SP1 to SP2, a "management add-on" will be added in the "Tools" of IE. "", but open this "Manage Add-ons" window, select a plug-in loaded into IE, found in the "Settings" prompt "This add-on is managed by your administrator", can not use the "Enable" or "Prohibited" next to To manage the IE plugin, it is also impossible to "update ActiveX".

Solution: Step 1: Enter the following in Notepad and save as A.reg.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Policies\\Ext]

"RestrictToList"=dword:00000000

Step 2: Double-click to run A.reg to merge this file into the registry. Close and restart the IE window.
