Clone the contents of the old hard drive to the new hard drive

Implementation: If you buy a new hard drive, now you want to clone the contents of the old hard drive to the new hard drive. Or want to clone all the data on a hard disk to an empty hard disk for backup, in case of any eventuality. At this time, it will be very simple to pass Ghost.

Step 1: Set the hard disk jumper
First, set the two hard disks according to the hard disk manual to set the jumpers to the master-slave state respectively. In order to better transfer the data, then the new and old hard disks will be separately used. Connect to the two IDE ports on the same machine (you can unplug the CD drive first).

Step 2: Prepare a DOS boot disk cloning hard disk
machine and enter at the DOS prompt: Ghost, start Ghost. Then select Local→Disk→To Disk (as shown in Figure 1). At this time, Ghost will ask for the serial number (License Number) and input it in turn (Figure 2).

Tips
★ How to make a DOS boot disk, please see the previous content.
★ You can also copy the mouse driver of mouse.exe to the boot disk, and then load it after booting (or directly into the autoexec.bat file, so that it can be loaded directly during the boot process), so Ghost can be clicked with the mouse.

Step 3: After selecting the original
, Ghost will display a window with Select local source drive by clicking on the drive number. Here, you can see the number of hard disks on the machine, and the capacity of each hard disk will be displayed, so that it is easy to recognize which hard disk. In this example, the contents of the first hard disk (that is, the first hard disk on the machine) are cloned to the second hard disk (that is, the second hard disk on the machine). (Figure 3), select the hard disk No. 1 with the mouse and click the OK button to confirm.

Step 4: Select the target disk
in the Select local destination drive by clicking on the drive number (select the target hard disk), use the mouse to select the 2nd hard disk (ie The target disk, as shown in Figure 4), press the OK button to confirm.

Step 5: Change the target disk partition size
The new Ghost 2002 will also pop up the window shown in Figure 5, let us reset the size of the partition on the target disk after cloning. If you want to change it, just click on the New Size field with your mouse and enter the new value. Under normal circumstances, do not modify, just press the OK button to continue.

Tips
When operating in Ghost, you need to switch before different items, just press the Tab key, such as pressing Tab multiple times, and positioning the focus on New Size You can define the new partition size by typing data directly from the keyboard.

Step 6: Confirm the clone
Because the cloned hard disk to the hard disk will delete all the data on the target disk, so Ghost will also pop up (as shown in Figure 6). Operation, Ghost will start the hard disk cloning operation after pressing the Yes button. At the same time, there will be a blue progress bar at the top of the screen to show the status of its progress (Figure 7). The speed is of course depending on the amount of data you have. Generally, about 1GB of data can be completed in about 10 minutes. Upon completion, Ghost will also display a window (as shown in Figure 8) asking whether to continue (Continue) or restart the calculation (Reset Computer). Select Continue to continue working in Ghost and press the Reset Computer button to restart the computer.

Tips
★We can completely partition and format the new hard disk, and finally hang the empty hard disk in Windows. Copy, if there is only one partition or a little file, then it would be fine. If there are more partitions and folders, it is inevitable that there will be no mistakes. At this time, the Ghost hard disk copy function can copy the contents of the old hard disk to the new hard disk without any problem, and the speed is extremely fast! This is the powerless difference between Ghost and general copy!
★ When performing the copy between the hard disks, you must not make a mistake when selecting the source disk and the target disk. If the data is important, it is best to make a backup first. If you reverse the disk, you will get two empty plates without any data!
★ If the capacity of the two hard drives is different, in theory, you can only copy from a small hard drive to a large hard drive, but not a large hard drive to a small hard drive (this is easy to understand). After copying the small hard disk to the large hard disk for the whole disk, since Ghost will use the remaining space as idle processing, we will find that the capacity of the large hard disk after copying is “smaller”, and you must pass the partitioning software. (such as Partition Magic) find out the remaining space.
★You can sort and repair the hard disk before copying the hard disk. For the hard disk with bad sectors, this copy operation, because Ghost uses the track copy method, the copied system may also run. It is unstable, so be sure to pay attention.
★ If the partition format is different after the clone is cloned, Ghost may also display a confirmation conversion partition type window as shown in Figure 9. Press the Yes button to continue.
