System tool to remove disk fragmentation

After five passes, there will be nothing more happier than this continuous mood. If you learn a little hard at the fifth level, you will get a moment of ease in the next sixth level. The defragmentation of the disk is very helpful for you to solve the slow system, as well as some unexpected small problems. For the operation of it, you only need to follow us step by step.

I was hit by a disk fragment "waist"

The new computer has been bought for three months, and the 120GB hard drive has hundreds of MP3s, dozens of games and many movies. Because the hard disk space is very large, it is even more unscrupulous to install software and save files in the hard disk. But in the recent period, the startup suddenly slowed down, and there is still a tendency to slow down. It is also a lot slower to start a game. It feels that the hard disk seems a bit overwhelmed. The first reaction is that the computer may have a virus. After buying the latest anti-virus software for a while, not only did not find any virus, but the system software started slower.

What exactly is it in the system? The problem should be with the hard disk partition itself. Fortunately, the Windows XP system installed by myself, the disk tools are richer and more powerful than Windows 98. Open "My Computer", right click on any partition letter, select "Properties" in the right-click menu, and then select the "Tools" tab (Figure 1) in the pop-up window.

Figure 1

Note: How is disk fragmentation generated? In a disk partition, files are scattered to different places on the disk instead of being continuously stored in contiguous clusters of disks. And because during the file operation, the Windows system may call virtual memory to synchronize the hypervisor, which will cause each program to frequently read and write to the hard disk, resulting in disk fragmentation.

Because I have run any program and there is no error message, I have ruled out the "bug" function in "Tools" to find out where the partition is wrong. It seems that only focus on the "fragment management" function. Regardless of the three seven twenty-one, click on the "Start Finishing" button in Figure 1, go in and see.

The interface in the "Shard Management" function is very simple (Figure 2). The upper part shows the partition list of the entire disk, where you can select the partition you want to manage. Now try to click the "Analyze" button in the window of Figure 2, only to hear the hard disk read a crazy memory, but for a very short time, a dialog box pops up after the analysis, which shows "You should defragment the partition" . Is the reason why all programs in the system slow down is indeed caused by disk fragmentation?

Figure 2

Note: Disk fragmentation generally does not cause problems in the system, but too many file fragments will cause the system to look back and forth while reading the file, causing system performance degradation. Seriously, the hard disk life should be shortened. In addition, excessive disk fragmentation may also result in the loss of stored files.

After analyzing the disk, the middle of Figure 2 shows the data storage status of the disk. Red represents the fragment file, blue represents the continuous file, and white represents the free space. If there is a lot of red, it means that there are too many fragments, you need to sort the disk.

Pick up the "broom" to sweep the debris

Of course, if you find the reason, you have to fix it right away. I don't know if I have high savvy, or defragmentation is really simple under Windows XP. Next to the "Analysis" button in Figure 2, there is a "defragmentation" button. Click to try... The next thing is to wait slowly. Of course, if the partition finishing process is long, the partition capacity is small, and the defragmentation process is relatively short.

Other buttons, whoever you read will understand, a "pause", a "stop", in fact, we do not have to guard the computer next to the defragmentation process, these two buttons In case of an emergency, you need to operate the computer immediately and pause or stop the defragmentation program, you really can't use them.

After the defragmentation, you can also check the file storage status of your partition through the report provided by Windows. You can also compare the performance of the files before and after finishing. 3)

Figure 3

Note: Disk defragmentation is different from other operations of the computer. During the defragmentation process, the hard disk will rotate continuously at high speed and perform frequent disks. Read and write operations, each time the defragmentation may lead to a decline in the life of the hard disk, so do not do it often, it is recommended to organize it once a month or so. Before each sorting, use "Analysis" to see if it is necessary to defragment the disk.

When a good "cleaner"

Because disk defragmentation may be directly related to the operation of the disk, the above steps seem simple, in fact, there are still many problems to be noted. Because of a little carelessness, the result is rather terrible.

To ensure that the program works properly, it is best to turn off all open applications before using Disk Defragmenter, because some programs may repeatedly read the data on the hard disk during the running process. This may affect the normal operation of the defragmenter. Also, before you defragment, close the screen saver, otherwise the defragmenter will repeat the iterations repeatedly, which will result in wasted time.

Before the disk fragmentation program runs, if the free space on the hard disk is too small, the application running speed will be slower and the disk defragmentation will be difficult. Therefore, it is best to keep the remaining space in the partition above 15% before defragmenting. Especially the main partition of the system, the larger the remaining space, the smoother the finishing process. In addition, you must release the occupied disk space in time before defragmentation, such as emptying the recycle bin, deleting the history after surfing the Internet, and deleting temporary folders and files.

Note: The Windows XP disk management tool has been greatly improved on the basis of Windows 98/2000. The most important thing is that the disk finishing speed is much faster. Especially for organizing large partition disks, Windows XP tools are completely adequate. Now, the capacity of the hard disk has become larger. It is recommended here that the computer system is installed as Windows XP.
Other excellent disk defragmentation tools

In addition to the Windows system's own defragmentation program, there are some dedicated defragmentation tools, such as VoptXP, MindSoft Defrag, PerfectDisk2000 and so on. These softwares were popular before the official launch of Windows XP, but I saw that Microsoft has strengthened the disk defragmentation program in Windows XP. These excellent defragmentation tools have slowly withdrawn from everyone's view. Especially after the NTFS file system became popular, some defragmentation tools began to feel powerless. But their existence always has their reasons and characteristics. Now let's see what they have.

VoptXP V7.22

Needless to say, this software should be heard by many users. In Windows 98, the speed is its main feature. But a year ago, I heard that although it was first-rate, the finishing effect was not very satisfactory and gradually declined. The latest version of this software was released last year, it does not support NTFS, it can be said that it will be abandoned after leaving Windows 98. But if you are still using Windows 98, it should be your must-have tool.

MindSoft Defrag V2.0

Recently, it seems that there is no updated version. MindSoft Defrag was only revealed after Windows XP was released. Its function is very simple, it is said that its finishing effect is better than Windows XP, but the specific effect, we can not test, if you are interested, you can use it.

PerfectDisk2000

This software should be considered a boutique, but I don't know why, and I haven't updated its version yet. It is very powerful, it also supports NTFS, and even supports remote computer finishing, defragmenting disk file directories, and so on. It seems to be far from the average user, but it is a treasure for the computer administrator.
